Program Objectives
The Hotel Management and Operations program aims to introduce a new model of the dual education, which includes academic studies in addition to on job training in cooperation between Professional Development Foundation and Marriott International through its hotels in Egypt.
Program Design
The duration of the program four years divided into eight semesters. The program based on 240 credit points. Each academic year counts 60 points. The first year will be implemented at Helwan University to cover the fundamentals of hotel management as well as the English language development and personal and behavioral skills offered by Professional Development Foundation through international training companies with high quality training level. After that, the students will have a three-year internship at one of Marriott International hotels in Egypt. They will be employed as contract officers with all the functional and insurance rights until the completion of their full academic studies.
The program consists of the following modules:
A. Business English Skills Development – Hotel Management:
This module aims to provide the trainees with the basic skills of English language in the hotel field. These skills include conversation skills, report writing, correspondence, CV writing and business ethics.
The trainees will start the English languages course during the first academic year in the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels - Helwan University and before moving to the on-the-job training at one of Marriot International hotels in Egypt.
B. Character Development & Behavioral Skills:
This module aims to provide the trainees with the basic personal skills in dealing with others and how to communicate efficiently and professionally, which is one of the basic elements of the employees’ personality in the field of hotel management.
This training phase carried out immediately prior to the transition to the on-the-job training at one of Marriott International Hotels in Egypt.
C. On the Job Training:
The students move to one of Marriott International Hotels in Egypt to start the on-the-job training by the second academic year, starting work and training together as an employee with full rights and responsibilities. This period consists of three full years representing the rest of the training program until the completion of the study. During this period, the trainee will be trained in all aspects of hotel management in both departments (Room Management and Food and Beverage Management), providing free time for the trainees to attend their lectures in college, and to attend their theoretical tests.
D. Completion of the Training Program:
The Bachelor of Hotel Management and Operation program ends with the completion of the on-the-job training by the end of the fourth year. The program graduates will be awarded a "Bachelor degree in Hotel Management and Operation" from the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels - Helwan University, with an experience certificate from Marriott International.
Selection Criteria
- Egyptian Citizens
- Applicants to the College of Tourism and Hotels - English Hotel Management Department.
- Selected candidates have to first pass a personal interview and an English placement test
